Get The Look Makeup Ideas

Get The Look, Makeup Ideas

Today I’m trying something new on A Side Of Style, and that’s a new ‘Get The Look, Makeup Ideas’ beauty series.

I’ll likely do one of two things: one – every once and awhile I will snap photos of my makeup look of the day and then share it with you; or two – share a make-up look by someone else, that I’m loving. The purpose is that you can re-create the look yourself, or pull make-up inspiration from it. Hence the “Get The Look, Makeup Ideas” title.

Before I go any further, let me preface this blog post with the fact that I am not a professional make-up artist. Not even close. But, I hope that you can find comfort in this fact, and that it’s encouraging to you. Because really, if I can do it, so can you.

While I still have a lot to learn in the beauty world, I have been wearing make-up since my pre-teens and have picked up tips and tricks along the way. Whenever someone does my make-up I get them to explain what they are doing so I can re-create it myself. I hope I can be that person for you.

I love playing around with new make-up and trying new things, because that’s part of what makes life fun (for me). I hope today’s beauty post, and all future “Get the look: Makeup Ideas” posts, will help you learn more about make-up, and inspire you not take it so seriously – to have fun and try new things.

I want this series to be valuable to you, so please make sure to ask me any questions; including (but definitely not limited to) products you aren’t sure how to use, looks you want me to create, etc. The best ways to get in contact with are to leave me a comment at the bottom of any blog post, send me a message on Instagram at @asideofstyle or @victoria.simpson, or email me (victoria@asideofstyle.com, and for the subject write: Beauty Talk).

For this make-up look I wanted to play with a new eyeshadow palette from NARS. I was a little intimidated by it at first, because the colours are quite dark, however I found that I was able to start with a small amount and build on it if I wanted it to be darker.

I first used the colour ‘blind date’ over my entire eyelid and up the brow bone. I find that a light and neutral layer like this is great for creating a base.

The second colour I used was ‘dominant’ which is the green colour you see me wearing. As you can see from photos, the green in the palette is much darker than what’s on my eyes. That’s because I used a really small amount of green and blended it across my eyelid. I first started with a small amount in the crease of my eyelid to create definition, and then blended it to the outer corner of my eyelid. I did not put the green on the inner part of my eyelids (close to my nose).

The third and final colour I used was ‘Your Move’ which is a lighter golden-brown. I used this over the green to make it lighter and to blend the all the colours together for a softer look. I mostly put this colour on my eye-lid (again, not in the inner part of my eyelids) to blend from light (closest to my nose) to dark (furthest from my nose).

To add a little drama to the eye makeup, I decided to create a cat-eye with liquid eyeliner.  I thought the green colour deserved something with more flare to it than regular eye-liner.
