Klay and I have been to a few different wineries for wine tasting and wine tours in the past, so this trip we decided to only visit one; in addition to the wine tasting we did on the main street (check it out here). We picked Peller Estates Winery because it was a short 30 minute walk from our hotel.
The walk was so beautiful! On the way there we followed directions via google maps, and walked roadside. The trees were so lush and green, and it felt like we were journeying through a story book. On the way back, we discovered a path that took us along the water, right to Fort George and beyond. I felt like I could have spend a whole day wandering that path, sitting on the benches overlooking the water .It was so peaceful.
And then there was Fort George. It’s a military post from the War of 1812, and it was quite the sight! The walls were made of logs (?) with sharp edges that were so perfect, you’d think a machine made them not a bunch of soldiers by hand. The same goes with the trenches. Now a days you’d have a machine that digs them out in a second, but not in 1812 – they were hand-dug. So incredible to see!
Peller Estates was obviously a sight to be seen. If you haven’t been yet, I highly recommend you go on your next Niagara On The Lake visit. It’s so grandiose, and the vineyards are vast. Klay and I tasted a few different types of red wines and they were all delightful. I have never been able to narrow wines down to pick a favourite, but honestly I’m not concerned about that – they’re all delicious to me. haha. We did discover from all our wine tasting that Klay prefers a dry Merlot, so that’s a big win right there!
