I forgot how much fun winter can be!
It’s really easy to hate on winter and it’s cold weather; waiting and wishing for spring, summer and warm sunshine to come back to us. But the truth is, winter can be oh-so-much-fun if we actually get outside and enjoy it! This is something that I was reminded of recently when I went up to my cottage with Klay, my sister and sister-in-law.
When I was younger I used to go up to my cottage with my parents and sisters frequently. We had the most amazing time – making snow angels in the fluffy snow, building igloos to hang out in, skating on the lake (when the ice was thick enough), sliding down snow banks, and driving to a ‘near by’ ski hill for skiing and snowboarding adventures. We had a lot of fun.
Then somewhere along the way, we stopped going up during winter. Probably because my sisters and I got busy with friends and life in general.
But a few weekends ago, Klay and I joined my sister and sister in law up there for the weekend and I was reminded of how amazing it is to live in a country that has winter. We went to a near by skating rink trail in the forest (which you can see more of in tomorrow’s blog post – so stay tuned), made our own skating rink on the lake, played “hockey” on said ice rink (which for us, really just meant passing the puck around, haha), hung out in the snow with both warm coffees and beer, got warm up inside by the fire while enjoying pulled-pork nachos and wine, and made s’mores over a campfire we built on the ice.
All in all, it was the perfect Canadian winter weekend, and I LOVED every second of it.
