HOW TO WEAR A SATIN DRESS CASUALLY

I love a pretty dress – I would have to say it’s my kryptonite. One problem with it (if you could call it a problem at all), is that sometimes dresses can look too fancy, limiting when and where you can wear them. I don’t know about you, but I want to wear my pretty dresses all the time, and not just for special occasions. This can be an issue with satin dresses especially – because the material itself is considered more of an “evening” fabric. Luckily for us, satin has been having a huge moment for both day and night, as far as fashion trends are concerned. So if the occasion doesn’t call for fancy, and you’re wondering how to wear a satin dress casually I hope today’s blog post gives you some outfit ideas to try out yourself.

There’s always the option of throwing on a casual jacket (think denim or leather), but if you want to forgo the jacket, my favourite way to wear a satin dress casually is to layer a shirt underneath it. Try different variations of tops to see what you feel most comfortable in, and what goes best with the specific dress you want to wear. Some shirts I love wearing under dresses are tank tops, both short and long sleeve tees and blouses. Which one I choose totally depends on the style and fabric of the dress I want to wear. I highly recommend experimenting with them all to see what works best.

Another way I like to make my dresses look more casual is to pick accessories that are more casual – flat shoes and hats are great! When the weather transitions from both summer to fall, and winter to spring, you can get away with wearing your favourite boots too – something that I love doing (and I am doing in today’s outfit). A hat really takes your look down a notch towards casual – because unless it’s a fascinator (or fancy hat you’d wear at a garden party), hats aren’t worn for fancier occasions, so they give off cool and casual vibes.

So next time you’re wondering how to wear a satin dress casually (or any dress for that matter), give this fashion tip a try and see what you think! Let me know if you do, I’d love to hear all about it – and even better, see photos of the outfits you come up with (share them with me on social media so I can see them: Instagram / Twitter / Facebook).
