Rachel Sin’s Runway Show at FAT

This past Wednesday I attended the Rachel Sin fashion show at FAT (Fashion Art Toronto, aka Art & Fashion Week), and enjoyed seeing her FW2012 collection grace the runways. Last week I shared my interview with Rachel (check it out here), but I saved one question to share until after her runway show – yes, I’m sneaky like that! So, today I’ll share that with you, accompanied by some photos from the show and my new top picks (although the ones from the previous post still stand, but after watching the runway show I’ve decided to add two more to the list).

{It’s great that Rachel gives a LBD option to her buyers, but makes sure it still has spunk. Loving the peplum look and lace details.}

{Canadian vocalist Cory Lee opened the show}

{ These jackets were even more fabulous in person & both colour-ways are great. I may be leaning slightly more towards the brown, but the black is nice and classic!}
{These sequin pants caught my eye right away – naturally, since my eyes are drawn to all things “sparkly.” Those sequins shine under the runway lights like no other.}

{Rachel during the finale – she looked stunning and that dress is so sexy, especially the back!!}

Haute Asked Rachel:
” What is your inspiration for your FW2012 collection?”

Rachel’s Answer:
Strength in fashion can be defined through color, structure, pattern, fabric and sometimes simply through the talents of the designer. Rachel Sin FW2012 Collection encompasses strength in different form, through the essence of the modern woman who will be inspired to wear it.  Reminiscent of the fashions from a Pedro Almodovar film creation, Rachel Sin FW 2012 is darkly romantic defining today’s modern style – an appealing contradiction of strength and vulnerability.

The Almodovar protagonist, a.k.a Penelope Cruz, inspired a mood board with rich materials including textured lace, faux-fur and shimmering sequins. A feminine neutral toned colour palette consisting of camel, charcoal gray and peach nude elevate the contemporary expression of the collection.  True to Rachel Sin’s structured design talents, FW2012 is a stunning compilation of work to evening dresses, fall suiting separates, fitted skirts, sequined dinner pants, and a form-fitting blazar accented on the breast with faux-fur.   Cut-outs, sheer lace, and a falling back-line are distinctive of Rachel Sin’s sophisticate yet sexy design approach and are incorporated into many of the collections pieces.

Rachel shares, “imagine the Almodovar heroine, you can’t help but notice as she walks by, the simple form-fitting dress is as visually stunning as her beauty.  She is well put together, but doesn’t have to try hard to make you look.  Known to create a strong presence of female characters in his movies, Almodovar consistently creates female characters who can do it all.  They can be plain or spectacularly glamorous.  They can be needy and possessive or fiercely self-sufficient.”
