Outfit // A Fool-Proof Fashion Tip For Creating A Stand-Out Outfit.

Have you ever wondered what the key is to creating a stand-out outfit? I have a fool-proof way for you to achieve exactly this, and it’s SO simple.

When styling an outfit, one of the first things I do is decide what my main piece is, and then build the rest of my look around it. The main piece is the focal point of the outfit, so every other piece you choose should compliment it; instead of competing for attention.

For example, when wearing a dress with a busy pattern and/or multiple colours, try choosing one supporting (often neutral) colour for the rest of the look. This draws the eye to the focal point of your outfit and gives your look that wow-factor.

I brought this example to life for you in today’s outfit, so you can see my fashion style tip in action. I picked this dress out from the new Sears Canada Concept (which is essentially a ‘shop within a shop’ that includes the latest fashion trends at affordable prices; this dress is only $49.99) for a few reasons.

First off, it’s floral pattern caught my eye right away; and the fact that the pattern is made up of darker colours makes it the perfect fall print. Secondly, I’m a sucker for all things light and flowy, so this chiffon material had me at hello. Third, it has bell sleeves! Oh, for the love of bell sleeves! This is one fashion trend that I have been drooling over for awhile now, but hadn’t actually jumped in on; until now of course.

For these three reasons, I knew this dress needed to be the star of the show. Which brings me back to my fashion tip on styling a stand-out outfit.

Clearly, this floral dress is the main piece of my outfit. Knowing that, I had to pick complimentary pieces that would take a back seat, and let this dress stand-out. Because the dress has a busy print, it was important that all of my supporting pieces were the same colour (neutral is usually best, but that depends on what your main piece is), and I opted for black. I decided keep warm by wearing black jeans (also from Sears for $49.99) under the dress, since it’s pretty darn cold out now. The black pants also to help anchor the rest of my accessories.

If I had of mixed a few different colours into this look – like a different colour handbag to shoes, and so on – the dress would not have popped, and this outfit would not have had the same wow-factor that it does (in my bias opinion).

I hope this blog post helps you create a stand-out outfit, easier and faster than before!
