God Save My Shoes – Nationwide release TODAY!!!

God Save My Shoes is finally here!!!  If the anticipation has been killing you then today is your lucky day, as it’s the nationwide release!!! I’ve been waiting to see this documentary for MONTHS, so imagine my excitement when the production company sent me an exclusive DVD screener of the film for my review and feedback. I literally checked my mailbox everyday to see if it had arrived! I’m happy to say that you won’t be disappointed!

What I really liked about this documentary was the wide range of people talking about the relationship woman have with their shoes. From shoe lovers, to shoe designers; from curators of museums to fetish experts; from magazine editors to burlesque dancers; God Save My Shoes offers many takes on why high heels are so addictive, so desirable, so exhilarating.Women-Love-Sex-Cosmopolitans-Quotes-Shoe-Lovers-01 {Quote from the documentary: God Save My Shoes}

I highly enjoyed listening to Baroness Monica Von Neumann talk about her shoe addiction, which she says is like candy.  Like most woman, she explains that each shoe puts her in a different mood and she becomes a different person. I loved that she pulled a few shoes from her closet to tell us what each one says about her mood.

It was also great to hear about shoes from the designers themselves, as well as get a small glimpse of some shoes being made. Warning: it leaves you wanting to see more and if you’re not already an addict you may just become one!

For myself, the best part of this documentary was listening to Elizabeth Semmelhack, Curator at the Bata Shoe Museum. She is incredibly knowledgeable and had me captivated! She spoke about the history of shoes and how they have evolved over time – from the Renaissance to World War II, to present day.  She spoke about how designers have taken shoes from the past and reinvented them. Just seeing her talk in the Bata Shoe Museum “closet” was a sight in itself!!Latin-Translation-for-Stiletto-Shoe-Lovers-Quotes-01

{Who knew?! Love it!}

If you love shoes, and I’m betting most of you do, I urge you to gather your girlfriends, bust out the cocktails and make a night of it! You can watch the documentary on Video On Demand or head over to the God Save My Shoes website to buy the DVD! Oh, and the documentary has a great soundtrack you can download for free and it’s REALLY catchy πŸ™‚

One thing is for certain, this documentary left me wanting a part 2…is asking for a part 3 pushing it?! The more documentaries on shoes the better!!

P.S. Shoe designers you’ll hear from: Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Giovanna Ferragamo, Pierre Hardy, Walter Steiger, Bruno Frisoni for Roger Vivier, Laya Rahman

V.
